Impact on the Organization
If you can’t effectively measure production goals and analyze your measurements, you can’t know whether you’re moving forward, backward, or nowhere at all. But it’s not enough to measure; you need to make sure your measurements are valid. Moreover, measurement doesn't occur in a vacuum. It requires management support. This module, used in tandem with Setting High Standards, is about putting together all the measurement pieces needed to help your organization lead its industry in production and quality, and getting the high-level management “buy-in” you need to make it happen.
Learning Objectives
- Learn better ways to track and evaluate production goals.
- Identify the importance of baseline measures.
- Practice developing production goals and baseline measures.
- Develop baseline measures for your own product.
Program Description
Using examples and simulations, participants learn the importance of customer input to production goals and quality standards, as well as the impact of production and quality performance on profit and loss. Participants work in teams, and team-based measurement techniques are stressed throughout. Participants consider specific production and non-production measures in several categories, and they are introduced to tools for accurately making the measurements they need. Topics include: setting measurement goals as a team; getting management support; collecting real-world data; setting baselines; and interpreting the data you’ve collected.
