Impact on the Organization

Today’s manufacturing environment is complex, and most production jobs now require math skills. Employees need these skills not only to calculate averages and percentages, but also to successfully read blueprints and engineering drawings, and make machine adjustments.  Understanding production math is vital to the success of today’s manufacturing environment.

This shop math course teaches addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, fractions, ratios, proportions, geometry, the fundamentals of algebra, right triangle trigonometry, and use of common measurement tools.  Participants are taught computing with a scientific calculator.  The focus of the course is on practical application, and exercises are tailored to the manufacturing floor and the math commonly used on the job. Pre and Post-tests are given to determine proficiency.  This program is often a precursor to blueprint reading.
