Impact on the Organization
Virtually no organization can survive without meetings. But most meetings are far less productive and useful than they should be – and, often, scarce resources are wasted on meetings that are simply unnecessary. It’s crucial for team leaders and participants to understand when meetings are required and when there’s a better alternative. When meetings are necessary, leaders must make them as valuable as possible by encouraging involvement, commitment, and follow-through. Simply put, it’s time for employees to transform their meetings from “time wasters” to “time savers.”
Learning Objectives
- Identify alternatives to meetings
- Determine who should attend any meeting
- Identify “meeting robbers”
- Master specific tools to make meetings productive and effective
- Understand the pivotal role of the meeting leader in running an effective meeting
Program Description
This module shows how to change non-productive meetings into meetings that get results. Participants will identify the critical factors involved in leading effective meetings, and learn specific tools for making any meeting more productive. They will practice the use of these tools by planning and running a meeting to solve a problem of mutual interest. Attention will be given to the unique decisions required of teams and groups who expect to be involved in multiple meetings over the course of a project. Participants will also learn who should attend each meeting, and when there are better alternatives to holding a meeting at all. Skills will be taught through interaction with the instructor and other participants; and through the use of topic-specific simulations, exercises, and practice sessions – all designed for meaningful application in everyday work situations.
Time Investment
Typically 4 hours.
